Ningbo to Shanghai... day 1

So now its Saturday... and after what turned into a late night for me, not because I was out partying, but like I did have 3 episodes of The Only way is Essex to catch up on! (btw I loved Arg crying whilst ding the marathon) Bed at 3am! Oh crap, Laura was up early to go in to Ningbo.... I slept through her leaving and a had a nice lie in!!  Shanghai day!! So looking forward to getting there for 3 days... The bus was only booked for 7.20pm and considering I had all day to get myself sorted I ended up rushing around at the last minute, no changed there then!!

It took 3 hours to get to Shanghai and then 30 mins to get to the hotel, where we was greeted with not a great sight, and it pretty much left us all very shaky and traumatised! There was 2 men in the lift with us on the way to our room, and even though they were Chinese we all had a really bad feeling about him, he seemed very aggressive and very angry! Our plan was to just dump our bags and have a walk along The Bund to see the sights at night! BUT... and a big but, we heard some commotion outside our room, and surprise surprise it was the men we had encountered in the lift when we first got the hotel. One was really shouting at his girlfriend or wife, from my nosing I kind of got the idea they couldn't find the key to the room! Not something to get so mad about but he was shouting like really shouting!! Anyway we went back in to the rooms to grab our stuff and go when all hell broke loose, he was screaming and shouting she was screaming and crying, he was throwing her around the room, hitting slapping kicking her! We couldn't see any of this but from the noise from the room it was pretty scary stuff!! At one point it sounded like he was choking her, glass was thrown and smashed, she was screaming in pain!! It sounded like she was being bounced off the walls!! We all was pretty terrified, more for the poor woman in the room!! And obviously we have never ever heard anything to that degree of violence so was really quite scary! Anyway Tong Tong called reception and asked for the security guard to come up to try and help! My god the weediest man turned up, the 2 guys in the room at the point came out shouted at him and he left! Amazing!! I didn't understand how something like this can go on and so many people just turn a blind eye! It was horrific to listen to! Strange Strange!
Tong Tong later explained that people don't get involved just because it is not their place to and if they were man and wife, the man has the majority of the power in the relationship! Apparently women are protected from this sort of stuff but they very rarely do any thing about it because they are married and he most likely to be the bread winner! Insane!!

Anyway after that we all needed a stiff drink! So we headed off to The Bund, by the time we got there, the lights all had been turned out but you could still see the buildings, not the highest ones as the fog in Shanghai is really thick high up! We found a little bar called Copper @ The Bund, so just went in there as it was getting late and we all needed a drink, after the episode in the hotel!! Jeremy did suggest a place called Bar Rouge, but after we got up there in the lift it was straight back down, we was not dressed for that place at all!!

After we got back to the hotel, the reception staff told us there was no fighting now, (wouldn't call it a fight) and they was to leave the hotel first thing Sunday Morning! Super!!
