Monday morning, another early start, and today we were being true tourists, we had a lot we needed to see! First we saw the Chinese peoples morning routine, in a square not far from our hotel, there were people dancing, and doing tai chi! We watched one man just doing his own dance and managed to convince Caroline she should go and do the Irish Jig next to him! She did it! (she is irish) We have the videos to prove it!
After this we walked over to a street famous for Chinese writers many years ago, Tong Tong told us this street had a lot history behind it, they had some really cool antique, jewellery and art shops!
We left there and headed over to The Bund, the other girls wanted to go up the Oriental Pearl Tower, so we made our way over there, when we got there it was rammed and about a 3 hour wait to get up there!! I was not planning on going up anyway, I have a fear of heights, so my plan was to go shopping whilst I waited for them! But they didn't want to wait for that long, the best time to go is to get there first thing in the morning, so they decided they would go at 8am on the Tuesday morning!! We met a Canadian lady whilst deciding what to do, she gave us some more places to shop and told us some good places to go and see! First dinner time.... pizza hut of course!
From pizza hut we went to Peoples Square to the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, this was about the development of Shanghai and this history behind some of the older areas of Shanghai! On the top floor there was a HUGE model of the centre of Shanghai, all the buildings were included, and some buildings that are in the process of being built now! They are building at the moment what will be the tallest building in Shanghai! I have some pictures of what it will look like and the stage it is at now!
Once we had a quick look round the museum and then dashed over to a temple called Jingan Temple, which had been open to the public! There was a huge bell that worked in the same way as english wishing well, so you throw money at it and try to get it into the bell to make your wish come true! There was alot of people praying to a line of different buddahs and then at the top of the temple was a huge buddah made out of real silver, I think jeremy said may be 15 tonnes!! It was pretty big and very pretty!!!
After here, we split up, Laura and Becca wanted to go back to the hotel to get changed, as we were heading to the World Financial Center, the tallest building in Shanghai at the minute, to the 91st floor for cocktails and to see the view!! We all decided we would treat Tong Tong to this, as she said she had never been because it was too expensive for her, there is a minimum spend in there of 120RMB per person! So me, Emma, Caroline and Tong Tong headed straight over there on the subway, to get a good table! This building was bloody massive, so tall, the top of it disappeared into the clouds! The lift was bonkers, like about 30 seconds to get to the 91st floor, at this point, I felt like I was swaying when I got out, like i'd just jumped off a boat!! The view was disappointing as we was just in the thick of cloud so couldn't see anything, but the place was so nice, we stayed there and enjoyed some cocktails, well we had to spend the money anyway it may as well gone on cocktails. I had a Lychee Kiss and Peach Blossom! The Peach Blossom was my favourite! Tong Tong had a mocktail, which I think she enjoyed although she didn't know what a mocktail was!
We had a few points when the cloud passed but the view was still not as good as it could of been!
After a few hours, we left for dinner, we was all craving something english, so we went to the super brand mall, and found a HOOTERS!! yes a chinese hooters!! All the girls were dressed the same, and they even danced to a couple of songs, where all service stopped and they all had to perform, Emma asked our waitress if she enjoyed dancing, she didn't really answer! So I don't know what to make of that!
Anyway when we left Hooters we had missed the Bund again, when we got back it had all been turned off, everyone was feeling really tired and worn out, it had been a really long day so we decided to call it a night and head back to the hotel! Tuesday was going to be a bit crazy trying to squeeze in the last remaining bits to see, and then head home on Tuesday evening.
